A few things on my mind lately:
1.) Lent
This year for Lent we are going Vegetarian. I am really excited about it. Andy is dreading it. To prepare I have been making more and more meatless dinners and this week we bought our first CSA box. CSA is community supported agriculture and you basically subscribe to a box of veggies and they fill the box with whatever is seasonal, local, organic. Peer and I had a great time making an absolute mess in the kitchen washing them all.
2.) Teaching
I have been teaching one section of TH 111 at CSUN. The class is titled Actors & Acting and it is an introductory theatre course for non-majors. I got plenty of warning of how tough it can be (which I don't doubt), but I really got lucky with my students. I'm loving the job and loving my students. It is a constant learning process, but I think it's going really well.
3.) Studying
So much easier than last semester. I only have 2 presentations, 1 research paper, and 1 book to read. I've already read the book and done 1 of the presentations. Life is good. I just feel like aaahhhh.....
4.) Cloth Diapering
Peer has started having leaking episodes at night again. We had thought the problem was taken care of. I think what's happening is a combo of our diapers getting old and the fact that at night we stuff them to their limit. This causes the edges to pull away from his thighs and he ends up peeing outside of his diaper. The diaper is mostly dry, but the bed and his jammies are wet. So today I bought some Indian prefolds online. They're supposed to be the most absorbant thing you can get and I'm hoping they are not too bulky. Andy has also been folding the inserts a little differently which also seems to be working. The leaking isn't fun, but I love the changing nature of the whole thing-- keeps me on my toes
5.) Vacation Planning
Let me just say, we never plan vacations this early in the year. Look at us! We are generally procrastinators. But we're thinking of going to Ashland again and we're trying to get some friends to go with us. OSF has some awesome shows this season especially this one really cool African one that I read a couple years ago. Also, I really like the vision that new Artistic Director Bill Rauch has for the festival and I want to go in the early years of his tenure. This year I want to rent out a cottage with our friends and cook for ourselves. It would be awesome. And by having friends with us, neither of us would ever have to go to the theatre alone. =) We have never really travelled with friends before, so that will be new. I am afraid that travelling with friends might be reserved for the flexible and even-keeled person, which I am not. But, as Andy pointed out, "what, are you afraid of them discovering how neurotic you are?!" True. They already are well-acquainted with that. Besides, theoretically, shouldn't producing a play with someone be much more trying on one's friendship than travelling? We shall see. We shall see.
6.) Mothering
I am constantly in awe of how smart Peer is! Maybe all parents feel that way, but this is new to me, remember. He is learning new words all the time and in fact, loves to learn them. He is also learning to be a really good helper. I think he got my sense of order. He puts things away without being asked and is always really eager to help us unload the dishwasher, put away clothes, etc. Brilliant, that kid.
He is no longer a "big baby." I knew his growth was slowing up, but we went to the dr for the first time in a long time last month and Peer is in about the 5th percentile. That was really tough to swallow since he used to hang out in the 75th or 50th. He might have put a little weight on since then because we visted the dr. only a couple weeks after having recovered from a pretty tough flu. But he's still no longer a big kid. He's a little short and definitely on the skinny side. But he eats well (although he's picky) and poops well and always seems to have tons of energy. So I'm not worried. He probably is just taking after my side of the family... =( And we are still breastfeeding, so it is a relief to know he's still getting really good nutrition thataway.
A really good use of the time I just spent blogging would have been to knock out some grading. But I just can't bring myself to do that on a Saturday night. Now you understand why I have been blogging so seldom... always something hanging over my head! (or onto my leg... =)
