3 weeks down, 3 years to go

Grad school is going well. I am really enjoying using my new laptop. I take notes on it in class and everything. I am enjoying being a student again and getting back into the swing of things. One of my classes is taught by a new prof and I think he's trying to prove himself or something because he's giving us a lot more work than necessary. It is the "II" version of another "I" class I'm taking and it's about triple the amount of work. I'm staying ahead of schedule, but it's starting to take away from my primary graduate research. Hopefully I can stay on top of it all. We had class in the library the other day and received special instruction on how to research on a graduate level. There is a whole new world opened up to me now! Writing papers, I can take it or leave it, but I just love reading plays and analyzing them. And I guess you kind of have to write the paper to do that, so okay. So far the thesis proposal I'm working on is on the plays of T.S. Eliot. We'll see if I keep that topic because I don't really have to officially choose my thesis yet. Another topic that I'm considering involves theater in Renaissance England. Also exciting!

Grad School update

Well, I made it through my first week of grad school. Having a great time. So far, I'm a week ahead of schedule... I'm really hoping I can keep up that pace. I'm taking 9 units, which really limits my ability to earn a living (only about 2 days a week), but we're trusting God with that. There is a lot to get used to when it comes to being a student again. (I keep accidentily writing "Schroyer" at the top of all my papers!) Andy bought me a new laptop, so I'm enjoying being mobile!

Okay, enough blogging, gotta hit the books!

Sept 11th Remembrance

I just watched a documentary that I have seen before, but somehow missed this amazing segment on Phillippe Petit, the tightrope walker who spanned the World Trade Center towers in 1974. You can check out the interview here. What struck me about this was the amazing comparison between his artistry/courage/life against the current backdrop of what happened to the towers and the terrorism/cowardice/destruction of the hijackers.
